Watch out for Ice Dams!

It’s no secret that Chicago gets incredibly cold in the winter months. What you might not realize, however, is that all that cold weather can lead to a serious roofing problem known as an ice dam. Ice dams are very common reasons for expensive roof replacement jobs, so if you think you may have one or if you’re worried about how your roof fares in the winter, call on professional roofing services right away.

An ice dam begins to form when snow melts on your roof, and the subsequent water reaches the overhang and freezes again. Continuous melting followed by re-freezing can eventually lead to the formation of an ice dam. And, over time, this ice dam can build up underneath your roof’s shingles or other material and can cause major leaks and other problems. If you let the problem get too bad, you’ll definitely need a full-on roof replacement, but if you catch and remedy it early enough, there’s still hope for your roof!
